Kia ora! I hope you all had a lovely holiday with friends and family.
Room 1 have had a busy start to the term and I am always so impressed with the effort each student puts into their learning - keep up the fantastic work!
Last week we had some unusual and very cute visitors in class. The students gave them some afternoon tea and asked some fantastic questions about chickens. Here are some of the photos:
During these first 2 weeks of term, Room 1 are also busy studying different shapes.
So far we have encountered a range of 2D shapes, such as, circles, ovals, triangles, rectangles, squares, diamonds, pentagons and hexagons. We have been using mathematical language to describe how many "sides" or "corners" each of these shapes have. We have also been sorting the shapes we find around the school into groups depending on their characteristics.
In the activity below I gave students "clues" about a shape, such as,
"This shape has 4 sides all the same length"
They then had to find the shape among the others we have been studying:
Finally, here are some of the gorgeous shape pictures the students created today. They used shapes to create pictures of houses, rockets and even flowers.
Well done Room 1 on a fantastic start to Term 4!
