Room 1's Trip to Te Papa

Recently, Room 1 visited the Tyrannosaurs: Meet the Family exhibition at Te Papa. We were greeted by a museum educator who helped us put a range of dinosaurs into different groups depending on their physical attributes.

Afterwards we were free to explore the exhibition with our classmates and fantastic parent helpers! Here are some of the photos from our exciting day together:

Welcome to Term 4!

Kia ora! I hope you all had a lovely holiday with friends and family.

Room 1 have had a busy start to the term and I am always so impressed with the effort each student puts into their learning - keep up the fantastic work!

Last week we had some unusual and very cute visitors in class. The students gave them some afternoon tea and asked some fantastic questions about chickens. Here are some of the photos:

During these first 2 weeks of term, Room 1 are also busy studying different shapes.

So far we have encountered a range of 2D shapes, such as, circles, ovals, triangles, rectangles, squares, diamonds, pentagons and hexagons. We have been using mathematical language to describe how many "sides" or "corners" each of these shapes have. We have also been sorting the shapes we find around the school into groups depending on their characteristics.

In the activity below I gave students "clues" about a shape, such as,
"This shape has 4 sides all the same length"
They then had to find the shape among the others we have been studying:

Finally, here are some of the gorgeous shape pictures the students created today. They used shapes to create pictures of houses, rockets and even flowers.

Well done Room 1 on a fantastic start to Term 4!

Happy Holidays!

Room 1 had an action packed and exciting last week of term three!

On Monday , we attended our final Kapa Haka session for the term and were taught how to do a variety of actions using a "poi". The students quickly mastered these skills and demonstrated some fantastic coordination abilities. Ka Pai Room 1!

During the week Room 1 also starred in our two Variety Shows.  This was a great way to finish our term long topic of "What is a Performer?"  and it was evident how much hard work did in preparation for these two nights. Well done - I was so proud of you all!

Enjoy the holidays with your friends and family and I look forward to another wonderful term together.

Zappo's Visit

Room 1's inquiry topic this term is "What is a Performer?" in preparation for the Variety Show at the end of term. Today we were treated to a live show of the very talented performer - Zappo the Magician.

The show had a beach theme and touched upon issues such as littering in the ocean, as well as, the importance of being sun smart ... all told in the most hilarious way possible!

Jay and Mahe were fantastic assistants and the show ended with a very cute bunny trick. The giggles echoed through Korokoro and it was certainly a very memorable day.

Here are a few photos from the show:

Team Tahi's Productive Week

What a great week we have had in Room 1! Welcome to our two newest members, Jesse and Emily. We are very excited to have you in class with us.

Yesterday, Room 1 were responsible for hosting our school assembly, as well as, sharing an item with the children and parents who were present. Pippa and Mahe did a fantastic job of hosting and all the students who shared their "Gingerbread Writing" spoke clearly and with superb expression.

Well done - I was very proud of you all. Here are a couple of photos from the day:
